● ● BASIC INFORMATION
NAME, hecate. ALIAS, goddess of witchcraft, the moon, crossroads, the night, secrets, solitude, earth, sea, air, necromancy and magic. GENDER, female. ETHNICITY, greek / roman. TYPE & RACE, goddess.
● ● APPEARANCE INFORMATION
HAIR, dirty blond. choppy. textured. hecate's hair actually refuses to go against its normal look. EYES, yellow normally. it changes to piercing electric blue when she is angry, however. HEIGHT, 4 feet 9 inches. she's short... don't remind her. WEIGHT, 95 lbs. if she's so tiny, why is she so strong? NOTICEABLE TRAITS, ring of tattoos down her left arm.
● ● PSYCHE INFORMATION
POSITIVE TRAITS,
- WITTY. she makes a lot of comments that are so subtly offensive no one catches their true meaning. she's impossible to fool with intellect or riddle.
- KNOWLEDGEABLE. as the goddess of witchcraft she knows everything there is to know about magic. rituals, ingredients, spells etc.
- STRONG OF WILL. hecate is the most stubborn person you'll meet. though her quietness and 'keep-to-herself' attitude means most people don't realize this. such a will is needed for working great feats of magic, or the caster will lose their sanity.
- CUNNING. this goddess is as sly as a fox and cunning as a snake. more then once the olympians have relied on her sneaky and sometimes ludicrous ideas to succeed.
- PROTECTIVE. hecate was a goddess who protected the weak (usually women) as they traveled on the road from highwaymen and other dangers. as such sometimes she finds herself saving and protecting the innocent without consciously deciding to do so.
NEGATIVE TRAITS,
- SOLITUDE. hecate is the goddess of the occult, which by very nature is secretive and done in privacy. henceforth over millennia she's grown accustomed to solitude and doesn't like to be bothered.
- SERIOUS. this goddess doesn't joke. kid. poke fun. anything. her humor is so dry some can't tell if she even has any. hecate makes sarcastic comments that are usually more cruel then anything. this also means she has a hard time grasping the idea of 'funny.'
- INTIMIDATION. hecate is incredibly intimidating. this means that most people have a hard time approaching her, which is fine by the goddess. however, this also means hecate has a hard time approaching others without a terrified result. usually the person fainting or running away.
- PROPRIETY. through all of the rituals, ceremonies and just the goddess using magic so often means that hecate really has no idea of what is considered 'proper.'
- BLUNT. hecate is not one to 'beat around the bush.' she tells it as it is. and though some might confuse it with honesty, the truth is that she simply doesn't want to waste her time traipsing around the truth just to make someone more comfortable.
- RAGE. this goddess has a long fuse, but when ignited and burnt down her anger and vengeance is incredible. hecate's fury is a cold and cruel type, without mercy or touch of kindness. what more, hecate's cunning mind means that she usually brings about the worst possible fate on the person who angered her.
STRENGTHS,
- MAGIC. because magic encompasses most mediums, hecate is never in a situation she cannot get out of, if only with a bit of wit and strategy.
- ALLIES. despite her solitude, hecate has befriended and made allies of most all other greek gods and goddesses. chiefly, the three brothers zeus, poseidon and hades.
- MEDICINE. hecate's vast knowledge of potions and rituals means that she has mastered the art of creating remedies and tonics etc. most can find satisfactory healing by her hand.
- POISONS. just as hecate knows much about using herbs, ingredients and magic to create elixirs, so too can she employ these skills to poison and harm others. some gods and goddesses come to her for a poison that suits their needs.
- STRATEGY. hecate is a master of strategy. because of her cunning and manipulative mind she thinks of many routes that do not come to others' minds. this means you will be often surprised by her tactics and hard put to be victorious against her.
WEAKNESSES,
- APPEARANCE. mostly hecate appears so young because it dissuades most gods (most) from trying to approach her. however it also can prove a hindrance where respect and privilege is concerned.
- FAVORS. hecate's powers encompass such a broad array of things that immortals are constantly coming to her for favors. generally she'll either hit them up for something in return or carry out their request just to get them to leave... it is still a hindrance.
- CROWDS. not claustrophobia or anything of the sort. hecate just can't handle being pressed upon all sides by other people. she'll either hop on her broom and leave or use her magic to escape etc.
- ANCIENT LAWS. these are the laws established at the beginning of time that no greek deity is capable of defying. usually hecate can find a loophole for her purposes, but the times that there are none means even her magic is rendered useless.
- GROVELING. hecate realizes how incredible an asset all of her allies are. chiefly hades, poseidon and zeus. because of this she usually does whatever she can to please them.
● ● PERSONAL GOODS
ITEMS,
- BROOM. cliche, she knows. but hecate has a broom with a very long wooden staff and classic bristles. this she employs to fly on, where she usually hovers above a battle and works crowd-control magic.
- CAULDRON. hecate uses this for many purposes, from making a potion to a stew. it is very large but is capable of shrinking considerably to move about.
- SPELL BOOKS. though she can recall all that she wants to concerning magic, hecate still has some of the rarest and most valuable tomes and books concerning them. each is capable of mysterious feats in their own right.
- LUVO. luvo is actually a stuffed animal in the form of a very unrealistic voodoo-like cat. however, luvo is capable of thought, speech and moving around, even putting a glamour on himself to look like a genuine feline. he is hecate's constant companion.
- ATHAME. this is a long silver dagger employed for special magic-related uses. though most essential for rituals, ceremonies and (chiefly) potion-making, hecate can also brandish it as a weapon.
- MISCELLANEOUS. wardrobe, full stock of items, ingredients and utensils needed for her various magical hobbies and arts, etc.
WEAPONS,
- MAGIC. this is what hecate utilizes as a weapon first and foremost. only against the most powerful opponent must she resort to more then a simple spell or two.
- BOW & ARROWS. hecate is very talented at the art of archery. henceforth she owns her own longbow and quiver full of arrows that replenish themselves whenever one is used. everything is black with accents of gold.
ABILITIES,
- FLIGHT.
- WITCH-FIRE.
- IMAGE WEAVING.
● ● BACKGROUND CHECK
HISTORY, in the beginning there was chaos. an entity of vast energy that was neither creating nor destroying anything it merely was. but it would seem that chaos was capable of much more then nothing, because it soon gave birth to a mass of primordial deities, the strongest and most powerful entities ever in existence to this day (besides chaos). while they separated in to two groups, gaia going off to make the world while nyx and erebus flitted through space, things got more complicated.
gaia got so lonely that she gave birth to the elements, falling in love with ouranus (the sky) who lay above her. meanwhile nyx and erebus so too fell in love. now gaia and ouranus gave birth to the terribly powerful titans to command the planes of earth, just as nyx and erebus gave birth to a multitude of children who governed more subtle and intangible powers. one such was hecate, who took up the mantle of goddess of witchcraft, magic and many other things.
throughout the history of ancient greece and its mythology, hecate was in a fair few myths. all of which painted her in a good light. the first of which is that when rhea gave birth to her last son, zeus, instead of cronos eating him (as he had done to his three daughters and two sons already) rhea called hecate. while rhea worked to disguise a rock as a babe for cronos to eat in zeus's stead, hecate flew down to earth with the genuine infant and gave him to the mountain nymphs who raised him.
next we see in the grand and legendary myth of persephone and hades that hecate actually witnessed her abduction from a cave that was working as her home. hecate didn't know what to make of the scene and liked to keep to herself anyway. but when demeter neglected her duties to search for persephone and the entire world started to die, hecate sought her out. carrying her two twin torches, hecate stopped demeter in her hunt and told what she knew. instantly demeter flew to olympus and summoned all the gods. after a short time zeus decreed that persephone be returned to demeter at once.
we all know what happens. persephone ate some pomegrante seeds and had to stay down there forever. but hecate actually went down in to the realm of hades and led persephone (along with hermes) to the entrance where demeter awaited. after that hecate told demeter that she would go in to the underworld whenever persephone had to, for company, council and as a watcher. soon, however, hecate grew to very much adore hades, and hades her. it was through this bond that hades granted hecate power over the underworld and dead, this is how necromancy was born.

FLIGHT., magic - wind - neutral. this inspires a variety of solutions. first and foremost hecate can charm an object to fly (with direction) - as her broom is charmed. however this involves a series of difficult and tiring steps. more fantastically, hecate is capable of 'hovering' at the moment. this is a type of flight that is graceful and silent, reaching the speed of a decent sprint. at the moment 'hovering' is the extent of her abilities without aid of magicked object, though this might change over time.
WITCH-FIRE., magic - fire - offensive. this is a unique brand of fire that is conjured by only a very select few. the fire cannot be doused with fire nor extinguished in any way other then loss of control or order by the conjurer. at the moment hecate can only conjure an orb of the fire, and hurl it to ignite other objects, though it takes concentration.
IMAGE WEAVING., magic - neutral. via magic, hecate can weave illusions of anything conceivable. however this is not without weakness. if her illusions are broke through intense physical contact (an attack or fast-moving body, etc). also, the larger or more illusions she is casting at once the more blurred and less realistic they are.
